Assessment Services

Assessment of support needs

Post diagnostic assessment of individuals support needs are carried out in a holistic manner, assessing abilities if individuals, environment and specific behavioural issues as necessary. Following the assessment a comprehensive report is provided including recommendations for appropriate support of individuals, and guidelines for staff or others as required.

Diagnostic Services

Diagnosis of ASD is often best carried out within the context of an experienced multi-disciplinary team. Grampian Autistic Society will provide specialist assessment and second opinion only. Referrers should be aware that the ‘formalization’ of diagnosis requires assessment and backing of appropriate health professionals. Referrals for diagnostic assessment and opinion should therefore be made by the appropriate health professionals directly.

Consultancy Services

Specialist consultancy services are provided to agencies, staff teams working with individuals, parents and individuals with ASD. The training consultant will work directly with staff teams and individuals with ASD, assessing the individual and situations and providing individualized guidelines as necessary. 1-1 consultancy with individuals with ASD can also be provided, to improve social skills, confidence or otherwise as appropriate.

Note: Training, Assessment & Consultancy services are provided by experienced, qualified staff.

Outreach Service

Set up in 1996, the Outreach Service at the Grampian Autistic Society aims to provide a specialised one to one support service for children and adults with Autistic Spectrum and Communication disorders.  However, this diagnosis is not a prerequisite for one to one support and all referrals are considered individually.

How to Access this Service

Referral

Referrals are made via your care manager or social worker, who may wish to carry out an assessment of needs before agreeing to provide funding for outreach support.  Following a request for outreach support from the care manager, the Service Manager will consider staff availability and inform if, and when, the service can be provided.

Agreeing Objectives

Although Grampian Autistic Society employs experienced and trained outreach workers, some thought as to pairing of workers and client is essential.  When a suitable worker is identified, it is important that the aims and objectives of the support are defined and clarified before any work commences.  A meeting will normally be arranged between the necessary
persons and the aims and objectives of the support agreed.  Necessary persons usually include the client, the outreach worker, parents/carers and the care manager.  If appropriate, there may be other professionals invited to attend.
